Truly Regret this Purchase This textbook is very HEAVY and it doesn't come with the option of online access. The online access costs the exact same price without being able to reference the physical text once your yearly access subscription expires. Clearly the publishers of this text are greedy and trying to get money from students any way they can. Most other publishers offer FREE online access to the e-book along with the purchase of the textbook. Quite a few of my classmates have the free, pirated version of this product and I truly don't blame them.I am greatly annoyed by the fact that there are no page numbers I bought, not rented, the ebook. I am greatly annoyed by the fact that there are no page numbers, like the actual book, in the digital version. It's important to know where to reference information for papers and notes. Page numbers are also important when given a specific series of pages to read. I always buy ebook versions for convenience, but I am greatly inconvenienced with this version.This book does not allow you to view pages like the 9th edition does This book does not allow you to view pages like the 9th edition does. Nor does it have page numbers. This makes studying near to impossible if you are given instructions from a Professor to study certain page numbers.

Spirited, feisty example of aging Excellent writing. Morris is feisty, inquisitive, adventurous--at 92. More power to her! I love the thought of her marching up and down in front of her cottage singing old hymns and marching songs. Her words on art are especially powerful and have stayed with me. She has health problems, she cares for her long-time partner who has dementia, she lives in a rural area, she still drives. Not easy! I'd love to be like this at her age! Her spirit inspires me. Grateful I came upon this book, which has had a far more positive impact on me than the Mary Pipher book I just finished (see that review).Good luck to both of us The book arrived on Friday morning. I cleared the decks, brewed the tea, turned off the phone and settled in for a day of reading. A challenge—finish it today. But, before the pot of tea was emptied, just about page 33, I laid down the book and turned on the phone. This is not, for me, a sit-down-and-read book. Not like a meal from the drive-through that will be gobbled down before the news is off. Like a gourmet meal, this is a book to be savored, enjoyed, and slowly digested.Morris shares that as she enters her tenth decade she is writing her first journal—“good luck to me.” And, I add, “Good luck to me, too.” Thing change—her mood, the weather, her car. She puts down what on her mind today, briefly, and then she’s off. This how I plan to finish my reading. The book will live by my reading chair, ready for a frequent dip in. My own journal I lives nearby so may even write a response to Morris in my mind’s eye.At a decade and a few ahead of me, she offers insights that make me feel fine about my own approaching “tenth decade.” Morris’s writing is, as always, a delight. I keep my underlining pencil ready, because I figure when in a few months I finish the book, I suspect I’ll just turn it over and start again. More than a fun summer read I expected Moriarty's book to be a fun summer read. It proves to be that and more. While warm and quirky, it also is humorous, engaging, and well-crafted. It has resonance. The story, part coming of age, and part murder mystery, is about a young mom and her 5-year old son who never stay in a place longer than six months. But as they begin to make real friends and put down real roots in their newest community, they also must live with the shadow of a haunting trauma from the first day of kindergarten when Ziggy is accused of being a bully. It is through this event that a later murder is somehow linked. Details about the murder are revealed at the end of each chapter through bickering background characters interjecting their raucous and catty opinions as events unfold. Against contrasting plot lines, bickering neighbors, and discreet lies of omission, the story carefully unfolds.Moriarty's characters are big, bold, and believable. As the reader begins to recognize their quirks and personalities, the reader also begins to see the edges of the lies these characters tell in order to keep lives intact, in order to keep secrets private. While there are a lot of elements here, Moriarty is in full control. Even from the title, there is a specific perspective lent to the story as the reader begins to understand that things can not be taken at face value and that a human being is never as simple as he or she may appear.Fantastic book, READ THIS BEFORE YOU WATCH THE SHOW! An amazing book about friendship, family, enemies, past lives, and the consequences of assumption and judgment. I read the book before watching the HBO series and I would STRONGLY recommend that you read the book before watching the show. The book is obviously much better than the show; the character development in the book is incredible and you become so attached to the characters, much moreso than I did watching the show. The show DOES NOT give justice to the deep, thoughtful, complicated characters that Moriarty created. I found the book hilarious, heartwarming, heartwrenching, and tragic. This is a true page-turner. I've ordered a few more of her books because I loved Moriarty's writing style. This book is definitely not your typical and superficial fiction; thought it was soap-opera like, parts of it were like a thriller and I truly couldn't put it down. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a well-written juicy story about a complicated town where everyone has their secrets.Compelling on the screen or the page I've been watching the HBO series and thoroughly enjoying it. So when a friend mentioned that it was adapted from a book by an Australian author (and the setting changed from a ritzy Sydney North Shore suburb to Monterey) I couldn't resist buying it.WARNING: if you're watching the series and don't want the end spoilered, don't buy the book. The series has followed along pretty faithfully so far, with one or two smallish changes (the theater production isn't an issue in the book, for example).Big Little Lies is beautifully written, with a rising air of tension throughout the book as we get closer and closer to the murder foreshadowed from the beginning. I won't spoil who the victim is for you, but suffice it to say I was a little surprised. I'd already figured out who the real perpetrator of the playground bullying probably was - it's always nice when you guess SOMETHING right - but there were definitely a few shocks in the last quarter of the book that I didn't see coming. It's an excellent book and well worth reading.That said, if you haven't watched the HBO series, get on that right away. It's incredible; Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are compelling as a pair of 'yummy mummies' who on the surface appear to have the perfect life, but beneath the surface things are far from the polished facade they portray. Alexander Skarsgard steals every scene he appears in as the poised, rich, handsome husband with violent tendencies behind closed doors.Big Little Lies is a compelling story on the screen or on the page. HIGHLY recommended.
