Same as 2017 with few edits; still good though I bought the 2018 version for my sister and last year I got the 2017 I have yet to find any differences as in the content. I’m pretty sure they are exactly the same minus the different cover. This is a very good review book. Using this I was able to get a 5 on my first AP exam, being this book.Wouldn't have scored a 5 without this book!!!!! I absolutely loved this book! It was clear and concise. I used this book to study a week or so before the exam and I got a 5! You must have a lot of dedication and patience however. It was fairly long but contained all the materials that are necessary for your success on the test. Plus, I recognized that some of the questions in the book appeared on the test in a different wording. Great book. You should definitely get this if you are taking the AP Human Geography course!Five Stars Great purchase helping my daughter with her homework. Would recommend this to parents trying to help their student.

The Hundred Dresses Free Pdf

ISBN: 0152052607
Title: The Hundred Dresses Pdf
Published Date: 2000

"Sensitive, intuitive, restrained . . . will take its place with the books that endure."--Saturday Review"Written with rare intuition and pictured with warm sympathy and charm."--The Horn Book"No young person . . . will ever forget it."--Book Week Eleanor Estes (1906-1988) grew up in West Haven, Connecticut, which she renamed Cranbury for her classic stories about the Moffat and Pye families. A children’s librarian for many years, she launched her writing career with the publication of The Moffats in 1941. Two of her outstanding books about the Moffats—Rufus M. and The Middle Moffat—were awarded Newbery Honors, as was her short novel The Hundred Dresses. She won the Newbery Medal for Ginger Pye.

Eleanor Estes’s The Hundred Dresses won a Newbery Honor in 1945 and has never been out of print since. At the heart of the story is Wanda Petronski, a Polish girl in a Connecticut school who is ridiculed by her classmates for wearing the same faded blue dress every day. Wanda claims she has one hundred dresses at home, but everyone knows she doesn’t and bullies her mercilessly. The class feels terrible when Wanda is pulled out of the school, but by that time it’s too late for apologies. Maddie, one of Wanda’s classmates, ultimately decides that she is "never going to stand by and say nothing again." This powerful, timeless story has been reissued with a new letter from the author’s daughter Helena Estes, and with the Caldecott artist Louis Slobodkin’s original artwork in beautifully restored color.

Great children's book about bullying Peggy and the girls tease Wanda when she claims to have a hundred dresses. It's clearly not true because she wears the same dress every day. Maddie feels badly about how mean they are, but does nothing. If she said something she might become the new target. But when Wanda and her family move because of how they have been treated, Maddie makes up her mind to never again stand by and do nothing. This is an excellent teaching tool to use when discussing how we should treat those that may be different from us.Must Read for All-Truly Timeless Topic about Bullying and Forgiveness As a teacher, I recommend this book to boys and girls alike. I hold it up to the class and tell them I will read a little bit of it to them. As always, the boys say "Yuck!" or cringe. Everyone thinks this is a story about a fashion show judging by its cover. Next, I tell them it's about bullying. Then, they all stop and stare. By the time I finish reading the first chapter, and I tell them we have to go on to the next lesson, ALL of the students are begging me to continue reading! Even the boys! I do have to note, however, that there are some things in it that may need to be explained since it was written so long ago (1940's). For example, I usually have to explain about the significance of the snide remark from a student/narrator made about Wanda having mud on her shoes. She comes from the "poor side of town" where the streets aren't paved and has to walk to school everyday; there isn't a school bus to take her to school. Or explain the reason why Wanda's dress isn't properly ironed (no mother to show her how to do it). But please do NOT let that keep you from purchasing it! It is a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn about the "culture" of the times! Students are enthralled by learning about those times through these discussions and love to compare and contrast it with their lives! I noticed some reviews said it was boring but parents and teachers might have missed the opportunity to have a wonderful discussion as I mentioned above. Most importantly, we discuss how the importance of Forgiveness is mentioned in the book not just the bullying. An important message about bullying This book was recommended by a pediatrician as one he reads his children each year during the holidays. Though the book was written in the 1940s, the message of standing up against bullying resonates well in today's environment. My eight-year-old granddaughter was enthralled. My five-year-old granddaughter stayed with us through most of the story. I was in tears as I read. I can see us reading The Hundred Dresses every year.

Just Mercy Download

ISBN: 081298496X
Title: Just Mercy Pdf A Story of Justice and Redemption
Author: Bryan Stevenson
Published Date: 2015-08-04
Page: 368

“Just Mercy is every bit as moving as To Kill a Mockingbird, and in some ways more so. . . . [It] demonstrates, as powerfully as any book on criminal justice that I’ve ever read, the extent to which brutality, unfairness, and racial bias continue to infect criminal law in the United States. But at the same time that [Bryan] Stevenson tells an utterly damning story of deep-seated and widespread injustice, he also recounts instances of human compassion, understanding, mercy, and justice that offer hope. . . . Just Mercy is a remarkable amalgam, at once a searing indictment of American criminal justice and a stirring testament to the salvation that fighting for the vulnerable sometimes yields.”—David Cole, The New York Review of Books“A searing, moving and infuriating memoir . . . Bryan Stevenson may, indeed, be America’s Mandela. For decades he has fought judges, prosecutors and police on behalf of those who are impoverished, black or both. . . . Injustice is easy not to notice when it affects people different from ourselves; that helps explain the obliviousness of our own generation to inequity today. We need to wake up. And that is why we need a Mandela in this country.”—Nicholas Kristof, The New York Times“Unfairness in the justice system is a major theme of our age. . . . This book brings new life to the story by placing it in two affecting contexts: [Bryan] Stevenson’s life work and the deep strain of racial injustice in American life. . . . You don’t have to read too long to start cheering for this man. Against tremendous odds, Stevenson has worked to free scores of people from wrongful or excessive punishment, arguing five times before the Supreme Court. . . . The book extols not his nobility but that of the cause, and reads like a call to action for all that remains to be done. . . . The message of the book, hammered home by dramatic examples of one man’s refusal to sit quietly and countenance horror, is that evil can be overcome, a difference can be made. Just Mercy will make you upset and it will make you hopeful. . . . Stevenson has been angry about [the criminal justice system] for years, and we are all the better for it.”—Ted Conover, The New York Times Book Review “Inspiring . . . a work of style, substance and clarity . . . Stevenson is not only a great lawyer, he’s also a gifted writer and storyteller.”—The Washington Post“As deeply moving, poignant and powerful a book as has been, and maybe ever can be, written about the death penalty.”—The Financial Times   “Brilliant.”—The Philadelphia Inquirer“Not since Atticus Finch has a fearless and committed lawyer made such a difference in the American South. Though larger than life, Atticus exists only in fiction. Bryan Stevenson, however, is very much alive and doing God’s work fighting for the poor, the oppressed, the voiceless, the vulnerable, the outcast, and those with no hope. Just Mercy is his inspiring and powerful story.”—John Grisham “Bryan Stevenson is one of my personal heroes, perhaps the most inspiring and influential crusader for justice alive today, and Just Mercy is extraordinary. The stories told within these pages hold the potential to transform what we think we mean when we talk about justice.”—Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow “A distinguished NYU law professor and MacArthur grant recipient offers the compelling story of the legal practice he founded to protect the rights of people on the margins of American society. . . . Emotionally profound, necessary reading.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review, Kirkus Prize Finalist)   “A passionate account of the ways our nation thwarts justice and inhumanely punishes the poor and disadvantaged.”—Booklist (starred review)“From the frontlines of social justice comes one of the most urgent voices of our era. Bryan Stevenson is a real-life, modern-day Atticus Finch who, through his work in redeeming innocent people condemned to death, has sought to redeem the country itself. This is a book of great power and courage. It is inspiring and suspenseful—a revelation.”—Isabel Wilkerson, author of The Warmth of Other Suns  “Words such as important and compelling may have lost their force through overuse, but reading this book will restore their meaning, along with one’s hopes for humanity.”—Tracy Kidder, Pulitzer Prize–winning author of Mountains Beyond Mountains   “Bryan Stevenson is America’s young Nelson Mandela, a brilliant lawyer fighting with courage and conviction to guarantee justice for all. Just Mercy should be read by people of conscience in every civilized country in the world to discover what happens when revenge and retribution replace justice and mercy. It is as gripping to read as any legal thriller, and what hangs in the balance is nothing less than the soul of a great nation.”—Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Bryan Stevenson is the executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama, and a professor of law at New York University Law School. He has won relief for dozens of condemned prisoners, argued five times before the Supreme Court, and won national acclaim for his work challenging bias against the poor and people of color. He has received numerous awards, including the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Grant.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A powerful true story about the potential for mercy to redeem us, and a clarion call to fix our broken system of justice—from one of the most brilliant and influential lawyers of our time

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING MICHAEL B. JORDAN AND JAMIE FOXX

Named one of the Best Books of the Year by The New York Times • The Washington Post • The Boston Globe • The Seattle Times • Esquire • Time

Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Just Mercy is at once an unforgettable account of an idealistic, gifted young lawyer’s coming of age, a moving window into the lives of those he has defended, and an inspiring argument for compassion in the pursuit of true justice.

Every American Should Read This Book Everyone in America should read this book--what an eye opener! I had no idea that this type of justice was going on in America. Children as young as 13 years old being sent to prison for life without the possibility of parole--and for non-homicidal crimes! Women sent to prison for life for crib death babies when there is no proof that the mother was involved in the death. People on death row who were completely innocent of the crimes they were found guilty of committing. Prosecutors and other officials railroading innocent people to convictions and then giving them death penalties. Judges overruling juries who gave the convicted person life behind bars and instead putting them on death row. Bryan Stevenson has provided an outstanding view of some of the justice being handed out in parts of our country. Most of the people convicted are either extremely poor, of color, or both. Mr. Stevenson, you are an amazing human being for devoting your career to this cause.Powerful, important book -- does the American justice system fail the disenfranchised? At its core, Bryan Stevenson's JUST MERCY is about the inherent inhumanity of the American justice system. As Stevenson puts it, "Presumptions of guilt, poverty, racial bias, and a host of other social, structural, and political dynamics have created a system that is defined by error, a system in which thousands of innocent people now suffer in prison." This is a system that condemns children to life imprisonment without parole, that makes petty theft a crime as serious as murder, and that has declared war on hundreds of thousands of people with substance abuse problems by imprisoning them and denying them help. Stevenson is an attorney with the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama, an organization that offers free legal services to the poor and disenfranchised. His book is a sobering look at criminal justice from the perspective of those least likely to be treated fairly.JUST MERCY explores a number of devastating cases, including children as young as fourteen facing life imprisonment, and scores of people on death row - mostly poor, and mostly black - who have been unfairly convicted. But the central focus is on Walter McMillan, a black man sentenced to death for the murder of a prominent young white woman. McMillan claimed he did not commit this crime, and he had a score of alibi witnesses, but he was quickly railroaded into both a conviction and a death sentence. Stevenson spent years working to get McMillan a new trial, and the two men remained connected throughout the remainder of McMillan's life. It's a fascinating case, one that involves perjury, police corruption, a racist judge, and prosecutors more intent on protecting their political positions than finding justice.Stevenson's thesis is that justice itself is denied for the millions of Americans who are poor, non-white, mentally ill, or otherwise disenfranchised. Ours is no longer a country that sees compassion as a virtue; instead, we write harsher and harsher laws that demand longer and longer sentences for those we consider undesirables. "The true measure of our character," Stevenson writes, "is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned." And by the final page of JUST MERCY, it is quite clear that we, as Americans, have fallen short. It's rare these days to meet someone who truly dedicates himself to those least able to help themselves, especially someone who isn't after media attention or self-promotion. Stevenson's tireless efforts to give solace to the many men and women on death row are both inspirational and affirming. He isn't successful in freeing all of his clients - more than a few are executed in spite of his pleas - but what he offers them is more than just legal support. He listens to them, takes them seriously, investigates in ways the police failed to do, and gives them a voice they had otherwise been denied. In the end, Stevenson writes, "we have to reform a system of criminal justice that continues to treat people better if they are rich and guilty than if they are poor and innocent." That's a tough lesson for a world too often motivated by money, power, and political position. The people Bryan Stevenson works for have no money, no power, and no political position, but they are human beings deserving of compassion and mercy. "Each of us is more than the worst thing we've ever done," Stevenson writes, adding, "the opposite of poverty is not wealth; the opposite of poverty is justice." As Americans, we can't be proud of our justice system until it offers justice to all of our people, and not only those with money and influence. It's a hard sell in today's mercenary, "me first" environment. But Stevenson's voice is one we all need to hear. JUST MERCY is a powerful and eye-opening book. I recommend it highly.Pay attention to the important information and not the way it's presented or who else is villonized This book is a sad book. It had horrible stories about people that were done wrong by the people of that time. They were people of color, mentally ill people, and the system failed them. We all need to be aware of this and that it happens to ALL people. It doesn't just happen to black people. It happens to all people. What my rating means is that to bring this out to the forefront and to bring what has happened to the attention of many - doesn't mean you need to bash white people or make out the police to be the bad people. I am tired of this being the only way authors seem to be able to get a point across. Try another way and you will get the information to more people that aren't turned off to the rest of the message.

I Declare War Free Pdf

ISBN: B07FSYZY9L
Title: I Declare War Pdf

Get out of your own way.

Whether you recognize it or not, you're at war with yourself. There's anxiety. Selfishness. Self-sabotaging tendencies. Narcissism. The black dog of depression. The inability to do the great things you long to do because you spend so many hours mindlessly drifting through the Internet.

It is war, but all is not lost. You can win - if you choose to engage.

In I Declare War, Levi Lusko candidly shares about his struggles with moodiness, bullying, suicidal thoughts, night terrors, and difficulty managing himself. He identifies four weapons you have at your disposal - thoughts, words, behaviors, and power - and illustrates how to use them to achieve ongoing victory. These practical tools from God's Word will help you learn to:

  • Retaliate against your anxiety by filling your heart with truth and making it inhospitable to terror
  • Stop being victimized by your bad behaviors and become the victor you were born to be.
  • Overcome self-imposed isolation by learning to think right so you can live right.
  • Spare your family unnecessary heartache by confronting your dysfunction so they don't have to.

It's time to stop being your own worst enemy. Declare war and become the person, the spouse, the parent, and the leader God intended you to be.

A book that shows how to practically apply God's promises to win the battle of your mind This book has now been added to my top ten books of all time and I own hundreds of books! Pastor Levi Lusko is one of the most real authors you'll read. He not only teaches you about God's promises of provisioin, strength, and grace to win the battle in your mind, he also shows you how to apply those promises by his real life examples. 'I Declare War' is a page turner that you'll not want to put. I recommend you get a set aside two days to read the book because it'll draw you in! Thank you Pastor Levi for writing another practical book and for being vulnerable. I pray God continues to bless and protect you, your family, and Fresh Life Church!Absolutely Life Changing!!! This book is amazing!!! Levi is so honest about the things he struggles with that it gives hope to all people who are dealing with similar issues. This book is a resource I will use to finally overcome all the internal battles I face!!! Absolutely life changing!!! Thank you Levi for sharing your battles so open and honestly!! Sometimes we Christians need to hear from our leaders that they are facing our same challenges!! This book not only empathizes with you but teaches you a practical way to RISE above all that is holding you back to be what God has created you for!!! Go buy and read now!!! A must read!!!!!We are our own worst enemies It’s true...I have love love loved this book. I love Pastor Levi’s ministry anyway, but this book was so so needed at this particular point in my life. The thing I love most about it is that I feel encouraged; never once did I feel like I was being “talked down to,” or anything like that. This book is written by a REAL person, who has issues just like I do, and for some reason I’m more willing to take his advice because of that. I think this would be great for new Christians and seasoned Christians...or anyone really! I’m buying copies as Christmas gifts this year...partly because I thonk EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ IT, and partly because I don’t want to share my copy!
